Understanding Florida Automobile Insurance

All vehicles in Florida are required to have at least the bare minimum coverage which is $10,000 (PIP )Personal Injury Protection and $10,000 of property damage liability. PIP covers the driver involved in an accident, regardless of who is at fault up to $10,000 in medical expenses. Family members living with the driver and passengers in the vehicle are also covered under the PIP insurance policy. In addition, it reimburses you and your family for lost wages.

Property Damage Liability (PDL) coverage pays for damages to the other person's property in a crash involving a motor vehicle if you or a family member is at fault and liable.

Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist coverage (UM Insurance) is optional in Florida. Pays for losses where the other vehicle is at fault and is either uninsured or not adequately insured for the injuries you have suffered.

Collision coverage is optional coverage that pays for the damage to your vehicle involved in an accident.

Bodily Injury (BI) coverage pays a party who has been injured when you are at fault. It pays for their pain and suffering.
